Get used to the noise and crowd in Central/Soho or TST, sometimes I would look for some quiet and easy-talking places, which are more for normal catching-up with close friends. The backyard of Causeway Bay would be a good choice, which I am introducing here a new open Japanese BBQ & Bar (opened months before), which is a middle-priced but quality place with a combination of Japanese bar and J-style BBQ restaurant.
There are limited seats in the bar/restaurant which is designed more for an open bar style with a spirit wall with the signature Japanese whiskeys. I like their concept to bring more fresh air and chaos inside the bar area by the complete open bar side which is rounded by two lines of bar chairs.
Wagyu Tata* $168 (3pcs)
Sea Urchin & Salmon Rice $138
We started from the vegetables and special offered cold starts. Wagyu Tata is not listed on the regular menu which means you need to check with the bar in advance; so does Sea Urchin Rice. Both are ranked as the top items throughout the whole dinner that night from us; the tata impressed us a lot by the tender and cool 'tongue' journey lead by the half-raw-hald-done wagyu, which taste was perfectly balanced by the light flavored radish; the sea urchin rice mixed with some chopped salmon was also a must-try item for its natural sweetened flavor from Japanese rice, the mouth-melting sea urchin and 'fatty' salmon meat.
Kimchi $38
Cold Japanese Tomato with Black Truffle $58
Vegetable starts are featured by Japanese, Korean and International flavor in terms of ingredients; the kimchi/spicy-lover must try the homemade kimchi, which has higher spicy level than the common ones; and I also appreciated the special Japanese-style sweet sauce in the tomato dish.
Japanese Fish Ball with Wasabi $48
Impressive chewy taste delivered from this special fish ball dish. The thick-sliced fish ball, itself, didn't contain a lot of flavor except the seafood freshness, while a slice of strong wasabi aroma was quite smartly used to create an emphasis.
Tamagoyaki $58
Cute smashed radish paired with well-done Japanese style egg roll (Tamagoyaki). A mouthful and eggy taste was the most important part of this dish, and they did a good job.
Japanese Sweet Potato $28
Japanese Green Pepper $24
Sweet Corn $48
Among the hot/grilled vegetables dishes, we liked the grilled sweet corn the most; they were completed handled with enough butter (totally melted into the corn) and all of them were perfected keeping the water so that each bite was crispy and juicy like you broke a mini water pump :)
Hiroshima Oyster $48
Grilled Guruma Prawn $88
Fresh Eel $88
The grilled seafoods dishes were in a good (raw) quality which was appreciated by me a lot. Among those, I liked the eel the most personally for its crispy but fatty eel skin and mouth-melting fish meat addicted. The prawn was also outstanding but I thought it was just over-salted.
Chicken Wing $35
Minced Chicken $48
Coming to the last meaty-meaty part which I just selected two here (OX Tongue & Beef Fillet was not here). I am not so interested in minced dishes in general, but this Minced Chicken was an exception; it was gently made with a quite good balance; not too much big chops to be over-rough, but not being smashed too heavily to lose the solid texture; plus the really tasty Japanese sweet BBQ sauce; this dish was kind of customized for Asian taste.
