"Nyonya food originating from the North of Malaysia - Penang."
When we were seated in the restaurant of "Old China" in Central Market,
we were told by the restaurant owner that what is important in Nyonya
cuisine, which you can definitely tell from the dish in the picture.
Not only does the taste matter, the colour and presentation are also
highly important. Blue, green, yelllow, red, orange, it pretty much has
all the lovely colours we always see. They make the food look more
colourful, by putting a piece of banana leaf at the bottom, which makes
everything look nicer. Just like this dish, it is simple, coconut rice
with some other condiments, nuts and meat, it makes a beautiful mix
already. I am not a master of Nyonya history and tradition, but I
definitely appreciate the way they care about food.
It is a whole different way from tasting any other western cuisines!
