Pharmaceutical packaging (or drug packaging) is the packages and the packaging processes for pharmaceutical preparations. It involves all of the operations from production through drug distribution channels to the end consumer.
Protection - The packaging must protect the product against all adverse external influences that may affect is quality or potency – such as light, moisture, oxygen, biological contamination, and counterfeiting.
Some commonly used types of primary pharmaceutical packaging are Ampoules, Vials, Blister packs, Bottles, and Sachet packaging.
Packaging adds value to the product, facilitates consumption, and prevents counterfeiting. Moreover, it increases brand identity, boosts consumer preference, and ensures profitability.
There are three types of packing in the pharma industry - primary, secondary, and tertiary.
A Pharmaceutical container is a device that holds the drug and may be in direct contact with product. If the container is in direct contact with the drugs it is called an immediate container. (or) It is a device which holds the drug (or) the drug product either directly (or) in a indirect form.
